Following on from telling the time in Chinese, we can combine time with the words for morning and afternoon.
Zăoshang – early morning
Shàngwŭ – morning
Zhōngwŭ – noon
Xiàwŭ – afternoon
Wănshang – evening
When saying when in Chinese, the sentence structure starts with descriptive word and time comes after, say in English it is 9 in the morning, in Chinese it is morning 9.
6:00am (zăoshang liù diǎn)
10:00am (shàngwŭ shí diǎn)
12:00 (zhōngwŭ shí’èr diǎn)
1:00pm (xiàwŭ yī diǎn)
2:00pm – again it is not èr (xiàwŭ liǎng diǎn)
8:00pm (wănshang bā diǎn)
Tell the time in Chinese:
7:00 a.m.
12:00 p.m.
5:00 p.m.
11:00 p.m.
