Hindi Introductions

Hindi is one of the two official languages of India. Hindi is also spoken in countries outside India, notably Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Nepal.

Hindi has relatively free word order. The unmarked word order is subject-object-verb.

Meaning: Namaste ‘I bow to the divine in you’ in Sanskrit. Namas ‘bow’ ‘obedience’ in Sanskrit, Te ‘to you’ in Sanskrit. 

How are you? Asking a male: Aap Kaise Hain? आप कैसे हैं?  Asking a female: Aap Kaisee Hain? आप कैसी हैं

Meaning: Aap ‘You’ Kaise/Kaisee ‘how’ Hain ‘are’. The word ‘how’ comes from ‘Kaisa’.

Meaning: Aapse “You-With” Milkar “Meeting-Bye” Bahut “Very” Achchha “Nice” Laga “Felt”
